Snowdon Challenge

BNI Guildford Reaches Heights for the Surrey Air Ambulance

Twenty-one intrepid members of Guildford's Merrist Wood group of Business Networking International (BNI) and friends have raised more than £9,000 for the Surrey Air Ambulance.

They braved heat, rain and exhaustion to climb Mt Snowdon recently. Despite three training days before the event last month, there were dramas.

One member battled to the top with pulled thigh muscles from the gym and one friend slipped on the way down, breaking his leg in two places.

However, they all reached the top where it was very cold, paused in the wet and then returned 2 km to base camp. The group raised enough money to save eight lives with the Surrey Air Ambulance.

"It was very hot going up," says Kirsty Snashall, "and very cold and wet at the top. I was exhausted but exhilarated and really felt at the top of the world after four hours of hard slog."

Julie Jenkinson of Surrey Air Ambulance paid tribute to BNI Guildford, saying: "Snowdon was entirely their idea and to give up their time and raise more than triple the £3,000 they were aiming for was fantastic.

"We can't thank them enough for their generosity as we rely almost entirely on public donations. I only hope they recover soon!"
